What to Expect
Yawatayama Castle is a mountain castle located in Kamamo-gun, Omi Province, Japan (now Omi-Hachiman City, Shiga Prefecture). It is well-known because it was once the residence of Toyotomi Hideji, and is also called Omi-Hachiman Castle.
To this day, Hachimanzan Castle, together with Himurei Hachimangu Shrine and Hachimanbori, which were once part of the castle town, are designated by the Japanese government as "important traditional buildings protection areas." The castle towns located along the Hachiman Gorge also retain the architectural style of the Edo period and have the scenery of a traditional Japanese water town.
Local citizens erected a statue of Toyotomi Hidetsu in Yamashita Hachiman Park. At the same time, there is also the Murakumo Imperial Palace Zuiryuji Temple built by Hidetsu's mother in memory of Hidetsu on the ruins of Hachiman Castle on the top of the mountain.
