Katsuo-ji: The Temple of Winning Luck

Katsuo-ji Temple has long been revered as a sacred site for those seeking victory and success. With a history spanning 1,300 years, it has been visited by powerful figures throughout the ages, including the Genji and Ashikaga clans. Even today, people from all over the world come to pray for success in various aspects of life, such as health, business, exams, sports, and love.

The many "Kachi Daruma" (Victory Daruma dolls) displayed on the offering shelves are placed by worshippers who, after achieving their goals, return to express their gratitude. The concept of "winning" (katsu) at Katsuo-ji is not about defeating others but about overcoming oneself. By making a wish on a Kachi Daruma, facing one’s inner self, and conquering personal weaknesses, one's wishes are fulfilled as a result of self-improvement and perseverance.

Nestled in the mountains of Minoh Quasi-National Park in northern Osaka, Katsuo-ji Temple spans an expansive 80,000-tsubo (approximately 26 hectares). Despite being only about 30 minutes from central Osaka, the temple is surrounded by lush greenery, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle of the city. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons—cherry blossoms and rhododendrons in spring, hydrangeas in summer, and vibrant autumn foliage—providing a serene and spiritual retreat.
