What to Expect
The first aquarium was built here. Rain that falls on the Tanba Mountains and Ashiu Primeval Forest turns into pure springs, then into streams, and finally into large rivers that flow into the sea. Kyoto Aquarium realistically recreates the flow of water from its source to the sea, and the ecosystem in which the diverse creatures that live there coexist.

In addition to exhibits, the zoo also regularly hosts educational activities such as "close contact" experiences where you can learn while playing, and explanations by zookeepers. It serves as a comprehensive educational and entertainment facility to help children living in Kyoto become familiar with water and the creatures that live in it.

Furthermore, as a representative facility of Kyoto, an environmental model city, the facility is actively involved in nature conservation, such as reducing electricity consumption through the use of solar power and supporting the breeding of rare species in Kyoto.
