Ise Jingu (officially "Jingu") is not a single shrine, but rather a collective name for 125 shrines centering on the Kotaijingu (Naiku, inner shrine) and the Toyo'ukedaijingu (Geku, outer shrine).Futami Okitama ShrineThe shrine enshrines the deity Sarutahiko Okami, who is beneficial for match-making, marital bliss and traffic safety. The Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks) in front of the shrine is regarded as a torii (gateway) for worshipping a sacred stone "Okitama Shinseki," which is associated with Sarutahiko Okami and rests about 700 m offshore, and the Sun Goddess. Since ancient times, there has been a custom called "Hama-sangu" (a purification ceremony of the body and soul in the seawater of Futamiura before visiting the Ise Jingu), and even today, many visitors visit the shrine first and undergo purification before heading to the Grand Shrine.Ise Sea Paradise AquariumAn aquarium where you can meet animals at "zero" distance! The theme of this aquarium is to be close to marine animals such as walruses, harbor seals, penguins and otters. The approximately 240-meter-long facility with a 1.5 km-long walkway boasts an unparalleled size for an indoor aquarium, housing approximately 1,200 different species. Divided into 12 zones by species of animals and their habitats, the aquarium features a sea lion performance show and the only dugong in captivity in Japan.Mikimoto Pearl IslandIn Mikimoto Pearl Island, where the world's first cultured pearls were created, visitors can learn more about pearls and enjoy shopping and dining. In addition, the work of the Ama (women) divers, who once took care of the akoya shellfish and nurtured pearls, is reproduced, and you can see a demonstration of Ama divers in traditional white diving uniforms, which is only available here.
